Tim Reed: A Nonfunctional Teapot

Today we feature Tim Reed who has the electro-acoustic ambient sounds down to a science, quite literally. Tim has a PhD in composition from the University of Florida and currently teaches music theory and composition at Manchester College in Indiana.

The work A Nonfunctional Teapot echos mangled samples of what I assume is teapots and other strange sound recordings based around the theme. These manipulations weave in and out creating a very interesting composition reminiscent of the great John Cage or Karlheinz Stockhausen.

Please download and enjoy. Tim Reed has plenty of other music for your perusal at the following links.

I’m going to go put on some tea.

Subaqueous: Liquescent

Subaqueous – Liquescent

Here is a nice melodic, electronic tune from the Seattle composer Subaqueous. His music is a unique blend of beat science, melodic entrancement, and composition. Liquescent is an aptly named jam: flowing, liquid funk. You can purchase the album off of his Bandcamp site, or, keep up to date of new tunes on his Soundcloud. Enjoy!

Recipher: Gigatribe

RecipherHere is a little trip hop tune with distorted breakbeats and pretty heavy bass, perfect for freestyling over. I don’t believe this song was on the website previous to the update, it’s available on the Origami Ham album. This song was done entirely on the Emu E5000 Ultra with samples from the Waldorf Microwave XT. Enjoy.
You can download the album in it’s entirety here.

Glitch – A Free VST from Illformed

I haven’t had a chance to install and check this out yet, but, this looks like a promising VST for doing glitchy drums! It was created by Kieran Foster, a programmer from England. I can’t wait to try this until when I get back home… If I ever do. I’ll update with samples when I am able to play with, however, there are sound samples on the site. Here is a description from the site.

Glitch features a pattern-based effects sequencer that takes the incoming audio, breaks it down into user-defined slices, and then applies different effects to each slice. The sounds it generates range from quite subtle to extremely bizarre, depending on how much you tweak the controls.

There are some other VST plugins for your perusal as well, check them out.

Biepang: Bleak Leisure

Biepang – Bleak Leisure

Biepang is from Tampa, Florida and makes awesome electro music! I love the synthesizer work and it would make Vince Noir proud. Here is the tune Bleak Leisure from the album named the same! Find more of his work below and an interview with him here from Beat Portal.

The Lunar Eclipse And Thoughts On Ramtha’s Eclipsophobia

You know, I think it’s quite unsatisfactory that the moon would pick such an early hour in the morning to eclipse. People have jobs, deadlines and other obligations preventing us from staying up all evening. If I could guess, the channeled spirit of “Ramtha” had something to do with this.

It’s about time we begin sending letters to the Moon to protest this outrageousty, surely preventing any further unwelcome lunar eclipse scheduling conflicts. It just so happens that a total solar eclipse will take place on 13-14 November, 2012. Cue up the tofu barbecue, tin foil hats and conspiracy theories: this one hasn’t happened since July 11, 1725. However, much like the sneaky tricks of the Moon, it will only be visible in countries such as Australia, New Zealand and Chile.

Start saving up to travel to one of these fabulous destinations, or, start transmitting the Sun staunchly and sternly worded letters demanding expanded coverage for other countries. The choice is yours.

Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 and Waldorf Microwave XT Samples!

Sequential Circuits Prophet 5

Allow me to nerd the hell out please. The Prophet 5 was one of the first commercial polyphonic synthesizers available; it was released in 1978. Such an awesome sound thick sound. Hopefully one day I’ll have some Prophet ’08 PE samples available. So, check out the Prophet 5 Zaps pack, it’s one shot samples!

Also available for download are a few Waldorf Microwave XT kits: Echos and Sweeps. All of these were originally on the forums for registered users, so, you might have them already. These will also be available on the sound samples page shortly. The rest from the old forums coming soon, such as the JP-8000 packs. Enjoy.
